Milestones on the path to improving community quality of life

Crooked Creek Community Development Corporation is engaged in the community development activities listed below.

Great Indy Neighborhoods Initiative (GINI) – This is a set of initiatives lead and funded by Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC), the City of Indianapolis and other partners that encourages neighbors to work together across traditional boundaries to 1) organize and get involved in their neighborhood, 2) decide collectively on neighborhood priorities and 3) act on those priorities to implement change. Crooked Creek is one of six GINI demonstration neighborhoods where this process is taking place. The Crooked Creek CDC serves as community convener for the initiative. Thus far over 500 individuals have participated in developing a Quality of Life Plan for Crooked Creek and implementation of community priorities in the areas of: Neighborhood Revitalization, Commercial Development, Infrastructure Improvement, Human Service Collaboration and Community Engagement are actively underway.

Commercial Revitalization – Crooked Creek CDC is anxious to partner with existing businesses looking to expand or developers interested in bringing quality, neighborhood-scale retail and office development to the Michigan Road corridor. Contact achadwick@crookedcreekcdc.org for additional information.

Neighborhood Revitalization – Various Crooked Creek neighborhood organizations including Crooked Creek Community Council (C4) and Pike Township Residents Association (PTRA) are taking the lead on projects to improve neighborhoods such as neighborhood clean-ups, beautification projects and identification of blighted properties. Crooked Creek CDC is assisting by improving housing stock. For more information about how to get involved in projects to improve neighborhoods, email mlewis@crookedcreekcdc.org.

Public Infrastructure Improvement – Roads, public transportation, paths, greenways and sidewalks, municipal services and other amenities form the skeleton around which future revitalization and development will take place in Crooked Creek. Crooked Creek CDC is working with government and other agencies to ensure a fair share of investments are made in our local infrastructure to meet the needs of all who live, work and visit in our community.
